Derede McAlpin

Derede McAlpin’s work focuses on crisis communications, litigation strategy and reputation management, combining her experience as both an attorney and communications executive. She currently serves as a Principal at Mitchell + Minter, where she advises companies, executives and other clients navigating high-stakes legal, reputational and communications challenges. Her career has spanned law, journalism and strategic communications, giving her a distinctive perspective on managing complex issues involving the media, corporate leadership and legal teams.

Prior to her current role, Derede served as Senior Vice President and Head of Litigation at LEVICK, where she advised clients facing regulatory matters, cyber incidents, class actions, corporate scandals and other significant crises. She previously spent more than six years as Vice President and Chief Communications Officer of the Association of Corporate Counsel, overseeing communications, media relations, social media and publications for the global legal organization. Earlier in her career, Derede held communications roles with Howard University and the Investment Company Institute and served as a judicial law clerk with the Superior Court of the District of Columbia. She began her career in television news with Philadelphia’s ABC affiliate, WPVI-TV.

Throughout her career, Derede has worked on communications surrounding nationally prominent legal and public affairs matters, including the first full facial transplant recipient in the United States and the landmark First Amendment case Snyder v. Phelps. Her experience also includes advising organizations through data breaches, regulatory disputes, whistleblower matters and other high-profile crises.

Derede earned her J.D. from Temple University School of Law and her B.A. in Communications from Howard University. She also studied international law in Rome, Italy.
