Joy George

Joy George serves as National Secretary of the National Black Law Students Association (NBLSA), bringing a deep commitment to public-interest advocacy, restorative justice and community empowerment to the organization’s national leadership. A member of the University of California, Davis School of Law Class of 2027, George previously served as Vice President of King Hall’s Black Law Students Association, helping lead the chapter during a banner year in which it was named NBLSA’s National Chapter of the Year.

A Bronx native raised in a Nigerian diaspora family, George’s path to the law has been shaped by a belief in justice as a tool for healing and meaningful change. She earned degrees in Political Science and Black Studies from Swarthmore College before building experience in restorative and healing justice, conflict resolution, community safety and advocacy for behavioral health resources and decarceration. At UC Davis Law, where she is a Martin Luther King Jr. Public Interest Scholar, she has continued that work through student leadership, legal scholarship and public-interest service. Her involvement has included the King Hall Legal Foundation, National Lawyers Guild and UC Davis Social Justice Law Review, as well as mock trial, where she earned recognition as a Top Advocate.

George has also worked with the Sustainable Economies Law Center, supporting efforts designed to strengthen economic stability and self-determination in Black and Brown communities. Now, as National Secretary of NBLSA, she brings that same service-driven approach to a national platform, helping strengthen an organization developing the next generation of Black attorneys and advocates.
