Shannan M. Young
Dr. Shannan Young is an associate attorney at The Edmond Firm, where she represents families in medical malpractice, wrongful death, and civil litigation. A pharmacist, U.S. Army medic, and public health professional, she brings an uncommon understanding of medicine, law, and public service to her advocacy.
Dr. Young earned her Doctor of Pharmacy from the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences and worked as a consultant pharmacist before entering law. Her experiences in healthcare exposed her to systemic inequities affecting marginalized communities and inspired her to pursue law to advance health equity and justice.
She graduated cum laude from Georgia State University College of Law, earning certificates with honors in Health Law and Public Interest Law and receiving the Charity Scott Health Law Award. She also participated in Morehouse School of Medicine’s Community Health Leadership Program.
During law school, Dr. Young led the Southern Region of the National Black Law Students Association and co-founded the ACLU–NBLSA Southern Legal Internship Program. The program places law students in ACLU affiliates across the South for experience in civil rights litigation and policy advocacy and remains her proudest professional accomplishment.
Her career has included service as an Assistant Solicitor in Gwinnett County and as a contractor Public Health Analyst with the CDC’s Public Health Law Program, where her work included maternal health and health disparities.
Dr. Young is the inaugural Chair of the Gate City Bar Association YLD and Co-Chair of the State Bar of Ga YLD Professionalism and Ethics Committee. Her honors include selection to the National Bar Association’s Centennial Class of 40 Under 40, Super Lawyers 2027 Rising Stars, and recognition as SRBLSA Alumni of the Year. Across every role, she remains committed to creating pathways for future leaders, strengthening underserved communities, and pursuing meaningful justice.
