Carleton B. Maxwell

Carleton B. Maxwell, PharmD, MBA, BCPS, FNPhA, DPLA, boasts over two decades of leadership in hospital pharmacy and national pharmacy organizations. A Fisk University alumnus, he graduated magna cum laude with departmental honors in chemistry from the Nashville institution. Dr. Maxwell earned his Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Tennessee College of Pharmacy, where he was active in the Student National Pharmaceutical Association (SNPhA), serving as National President in 2005-2006. He completed his general residency at the VA Medical Center Memphis and a specialty residency in Cardiology/Internal Medicine at VCU Health Systems in Richmond, VA. Currently, Dr. Maxwell is the Residency Program Director and Clinical Pharmacy Manager at Atrium Health’s Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, NC, following nine years as a cardiovascular clinical pharmacy specialist. A former national president and Fellow of the National Pharmaceutical Association (NPhA), he has been the Executive Director of the NPhA Foundation since 2019. Notably, Dr. Maxwell is the second individual to have served as national president of both SNPhA and NPhA. He recently completed an MBA in Healthcare Management at New England College.

In 2024, Dr. Maxwell was honored with the Chauncey I. Cooper Award by the National Pharmaceutical Association, recognizing his prolonged and notable contributions to the profession of pharmacy, the highest accolade from the organization. An esteemed member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Dr. Maxwell hails from Vicksburg, MS.
