Alexis Stanley
Alexis Stanley serves as Associate Counsel for the United Federation of Teachers (UFT), the largest local teachers union in the country, representing over 200,000 members across the public and private sectors. She negotiates and drafts collective bargaining agreements, advises on grievance arbitration, organizing issues, unfair labor proceedings, and discipline and discharge matters.
Previously, Alexis was an associate attorney at Levy Ratner, P.C., a union-side labor law firm, where she represented unions and individuals in contract negotiations, duty of fair representation charges, representation elections, dues enforcement proceedings, and strike issues. She also litigated arbitrations and represented unions before administrative agencies. In addition, she provides counsel on employment discrimination matters and related workers’ rights litigation. Alexis is also the founder of Elevate Legal, a firm serving artists, athletes, and small businesses.
Her leadership has earned recognition as Co-Member of the Year at the Metropolitan Black Bar Association’s (MBBA) 40th Anniversary Gala in 2024, honoring her service as Co-Chair of the MBBA Young Lawyers Division. That same year, she was named to City & State NY’s “40 Under 40” list for her impact in labor and employment law. She has spoken at the New York City Bar Association on topics such as union organizing, the National Labor Relations Board, and collective bargaining.
Alexis earned her Juris Doctor from Loyola University New Orleans College of Law, where she was inducted into the Order of Barristers for excellence in oral advocacy and received the Gillis Long Poverty Law Center Public Service Award in 2020. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Communications and Rhetorical Studies from Syracuse University. Alexis is barred in New York and New Jersey and is an active member of the New York State Bar Association, the Black Entertainment and Sports Lawyers Association, and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated.
