Alicia Butler

Alicia Butler is a health equity advocate and public policy professional whose career has been shaped by more than a decade of organizing, grassroots advocacy, and public service. A native of Seattle, Washington, she currently serves as Health Equity Program and Policy Liaison for the National Action Network (NAN), where she oversees national Health and Wellness initiatives with a particular focus on advancing Black health equity.

At NAN, Butler works alongside civil rights organizations, community leaders, corporate partners, and policymakers to address persistent health disparities affecting African American and historically underserved communities. She also works closely with legislators on Capitol Hill, tracking key health legislation and developing advocacy letters that help position the organization in conversations surrounding equitable healthcare reform. Her commitment to maternal health led her to become a certified trauma-informed care doula, supporting mothers—including teen mothers and formerly incarcerated mothers—with compassionate, culturally competent care during pregnancy and childbirth.

Butler earned her bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Southern University and A&M College in 2018. Before joining NAN, she spent three years on Capitol Hill, managing policy initiatives and constituent correspondence on behalf of Washington State residents and gaining experience with the Congressional Black Caucus.

Now a mother herself, Butler brings an increasingly personal dimension to her advocacy. Motherhood has strengthened her commitment to building healthcare systems that protect and honor Black women and families, allowing her to approach the work with a combination of policy expertise, community experience, and lived perspective.
