Ashley Upkins

On July 16, 2024, President Upkins broke barriers as the first woman from Tennessee elected to lead the National Bar Association (NBA), the nation’s oldest and largest network of Black legal professionals. A life member of the NBA and National Bar Institute, her service spans from law student volunteer to President, holding almost every major leadership role along the way.

By profession, President Upkins leads complex litigation and dispute resolution at Silicon Ranch, the nation’s largest independent solar energy producer, and formerly served as Managing Partner of The Cochran Firm – Nashville. A Nashville native, President Upkins holds a Bachelor of Science from Vanderbilt University and a J.D. from Belmont University College of Law, where she founded Belmont’s Black Law Students Association.

Her impact extends beyond the courtroom. President Upkins is a global advocate, multi-award-winning leader, and proud “Tennessee Attorney for Justice” honoree. Her greatest role remains being a mother to her son, Braylin. Rooted in purpose, President Upkins carries the hopes of generations, proving every day that Black women lead with power, grace, and an unshakable commitment to justice.
