Gabriel Smith
Gabriel Smith is the Legislative Affairs Manager at the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials (NAHRO). In this role, he directs the association’s advocacy on Capitol Hill and mobilizes a network of more than 26,000 members nationwide.
He previously served as a Congressional Black Caucus Fellow in the U.S. House of Representatives, representing the South Bronx in Washington, D.C. Smith also brings nonprofit experience from the Southern Poverty Law Center, where he partnered with educators across the country to integrate anti-bias and anti-racist pedagogy into classrooms. Earlier in his career, he worked as a grassroots organizer in Florida during the 2016 presidential campaign.
He holds history degrees from Tuskegee University and Auburn University, with a focus on the Civil Rights Movement and gerrymandering.
