Jonathan Newsome

Dr. Jonathan Newsome is a Professor in the Department of Clinical Sciences at the High Point University, Fred Wilson School of Pharmacy. He received his doctorate in pharmacy from Xavier University of Louisiana in 2008. After graduation, he completed a PGY-1 community pharmacy residency with Xavier University of Louisiana.

Prior to joining High Point University, he served as an assistant professor at Hampton University School of Pharmacy in Hampton, VA, and an associate professor at South College School of Pharmacy in Knoxville, TN and UT Tyler Fisch College of Pharmacy. Dr. Newsome’s professional interests center on ambulatory care and health disparities. His primary focus is assisting underserved populations in achieving optimal health. He has acquired approximately $100,000 in grant funding to address health disparities in underserved communities such as HIV awareness, hypertension management, COVID awareness and preventative health care for unhoused populations.

He has a total of 39 publications and presentations. He remains active in the community, participating in over 40 health-related community events in addition to numerous other community initiatives. He currently serves as the current Clinical Initiatives Committee Chair for the National Pharmaceutical Association after previously serving as the Zone 4 Director for two years. In addition to being actively engaged with NPhA, he maintains membership in the American Society of Health-Systems Pharmacists and the American Pharmacists Association.
