Monroe Clayton
Monroe has consistently demonstrated vision and leadership at the intersection of law, business, and social impact. As Chief Financial Officer and National Treasurer of the National Black Law Students Association (NBLSA), he manages the finances of one of the nation’s largest student-run nonprofits, representing more than 6,000 members and 200 chapters. In this national role, he ensures transparency and fiscal sustainability while advancing opportunities for aspiring Black lawyers.
A native of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, Monroe is a Juris Doctor candidate at the University of Alabama School of Law (Class of 2026), focusing on business law, innovation, and nonprofit governance. He gained experience in intellectual property and commercialization through Auburn University’s IP Exchange and Alabama’s Office of Innovation and Commercialization. In 2025, he served as a Venture Capital Fellow with Measured Capital, Alabama’s first Black-owned venture capital firm, where he advised portfolio companies and supported investment strategy.
Monroe earned a B.A. in Political Science from Auburn University, where he was active in Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., worked as an Inclusive Excellence Coordinator, and served in the Student Government Association. He built policy experience as an intern for U.S. Senator Doug Jones and as a Charles Hamilton Houston Scholar at Georgetown University. Internationally, he broadened his perspective in Accra, Ghana, coordinating study-abroad programming.
An entrepreneur at heart, Monroe founded My Vote Matters Merchandising, a civic-focused apparel brand that encouraged voter participation among Gen Z and earned national partnerships along with a federal trademark.
Honored by the Washington Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Division and named to the CBC Power 100, Monroe is recognized as a rising jurist committed to ensuring law and business serve society with equity, integrity, and vision.
